Genero Enterprise comprises Studio – a visual programming development framework that models apps  from three basic diagrams that describe: the application workflow, the database relationships and the user interface. The application is generated from these diagrams using customizable code templates that can be adapted to suit your own corporate needs and standards. Custom business rules can be inserted using Code Editor – a language sensitive editor that corrects syntax in real-time.

The Development Continuum Genero Enterprise is a unique, Low-Code application development platform tailor-made for mission-critical business solutions. You’ll develop apps faster and smarter making your enterprise more nimble in the marketplace. Faster, because you’ll model most of your app without writing a single line of code. Smarter, because that code runs everywhere – without recompilation – on servers, desktops, webtops, smartphones, tablets or in the Cloud.

The continuous generation processApps are developed using Genero Studio’s ‘Business Application Modeller’ – a graphical tool that creates your workflow from which you generate code. Templates are provided with the most commonly used patterns that you customize to fit your needs.

Start development with the Application Diagram. This creates the program flow of the forms and reports. Now import a database schema. Studio’s schema designer will help you create one if need be. Click on ‘Generate’ and very quickly you have your basic application ready-to-run. Refine the look & feel with the forms designer. Add widgets such as radio groups, comboboxes. Add lookups. Add toolbars. Add graphics…

Custom business rules are added with Code Editor and sit within protected ‘code tags’. These tags remain untouched when you eventually regenerate your app.

Apps are never finished. You’ll constantly revisit and refine – to keep pace with the market. What we call the “Continuous Generation Process” – the key to improving your productivity and maintaining your competitive edge.

Hiding complexityAt the heart of Genero Studio is an abstract grammar we call Business Development Language. As its name suggests, it is purpose-built for business applications. It embeds SQL and high-level verbs that are user-interface, operating system and database agnostic. Wizards hide complexity making the creation of web services possible without knowledge of the underlying protocols. You don’t need to know SOAP. You don’t need to be able to write WSDLs.

In this way, you code more securely and create fewer bugs. When you consider that 50% of bugs find their way into production, you’ll be glad that Studio is helping you make a fifth of the bugs you would otherwise be making with rival frameworks. Developers introduce a fraction of the bugs they would otherwise make with Object Oriented Programming Languages (OOPs).

Cross-platform">Cross-platformDevelop once and deploy everywhere – without recompiling.

This is made possible with Genero’s unique ‘n’-tier, ‘thin-client’ architecture orchestrated by its virtual machine that executes BDL bytecode and transmits data to and from the edge of the network. This tightly coded virtual machine ensures security and scalability to thousands of concurrent users.

The client layer is populated by the virtual machine via an XML-based tree we call the Abstract User Interface (AUI).  This dual-tree data structure sits client and server-side representing the logical layout of the screen form. Only nodes in the tree that have been updated are exchanged keeping network traffic to its bare minimum. The AUI tree supports MS® Windows, macOS®, Linux®, HTML5®, iOS®, Android® and even dumb terminals so that apps may run across them indifferently and simultaneously. Our virtual machine delivers online and offline apps for mobile devices.

Data layer abstraction is performed through an SQL-based Open Database Interface embedded into the BDL grammar and supporting all leading industry and open source databases such as IBM® Informix®, MS SQL-Server®, Oracle®, MySQL® and PostgreSQL®.

The operating system layer connects the app to the underlying system hardware and runs on MS Windows, macOS, Linux, IBM AIX®, Oracle Solaris®, HP® UX and others. Its interpreted bytecode is compatible between operating systems ensuring apps run everywhere without recompliation.

The network layer is provided by JSON, XML, SOAP based Web Services as well as the Java Native Interface.

Robust, scalable, secureThanks to its n-tier architecture, apps can be distributed across multiple servers behind the firewall. This both improves performance and protects the app from virus intrusion or hackers, since only the data displayed at the client passes through the firewall at any given point in time.
